Portugal is is the second largest fish consumer, but what are the new seafood trends? Will the future lead to a healthier and more sustainable fish consumption?
The company is dedicated to the processing, freezing and sale of fish, as well as pre-cooked meals. Being a factory of great freezing capacity depends on the delivery of fresh and frozen fish, which is 70% supplied by imported fish and 30% by national fisheries.
The Portuguese population consumes around 56kg/year/person. Yet, world fish stocks are in poor state with around 75% of fish stocks being fully exploited to depleted.
Globalization and fast food trends are also changing fish consumption patterns.
Processed prepared seafood, pre-cooked seafood, such as fish hamburgers, are some of the products already in the market, but is this the trend for the market of seafood?
How do the younger generations follow the seafood trends?
How can seafood be redirected to new consumer’s needs and lifestyles?
