Conventional wounds' treatment are not efficient and there is a lack of integrated actions between stakeholders in essential wound care. How can the emerging technologies in this field contribute for these challenges?
Current approchaes for wounds treatment demonstrate a residual sucess (only 30% of wounds closure in 4 weeks). Wounds are associated to chronic disease, such as diabetes. In fact, a total of 15% of all individuals with diabetes will be affected by a foot ulcer generally in later life, and recurrence of these ulcers is seen in over 70% of patients within 5 years. Wound's treatment represents about 2–3% of the healthcare budget, in part because of the low efficacy of conventional methodologies and of the limited integrated functioning between stakeholders (patients, caregivers, clinicians, decision-makers, influencers).
To successfully manage and treat wounds, providers need innovative solutions to support the monitorization process, risk assessment, wound repair, but also the communication between stakeholders. Thus, new technologies solutions are needed for a global and holistic vision in wounds treatment field.
